For Immediate Release: September 7, 2018

The Mojave Unified Board of Trustees approved the appointment of

Nauman Zaidi as the new principal of Mojave Elementary school at its

August 9, 2018 regular board meeting.

Mr. Zaidi spent the majority of his administrative career as an assistant

principal at Joshua Hills Elementary School from 2013 to 2017, and as an

assistant principal at Cactus Middle School from 2011 to 2013 - both in the

Palmdale School District.  He also served as the assistant principal and

athletic director in the Tahoe - Truckee Unified and Santa Monica Unified

School districts.

Mr. Zaidi began his teaching career in LAUSD, teaching pre-algebra and

algebra, and taught math and science in the Coachella Valley Unified School

District prior to promoting to an administrator position.

In his past assistant principal positions, Mr. Zaidi has mentored teachers,

implemented anti-bullying programs, served as testing coordinator, provided

curriculum development and improvement, increased parent involvement,

provided technology support and worked on closing the achievement gap, to

name some of his competencies and experience.

Mr. Zaidi earned his Bachelor of Science from University of California,

Riverside and his Master of Arts in education with an administrative credential

from Cal State San Bernardino. He holds a teaching credential in mathematics

from UCLA.

“It is truly a blessing and an honor to be joining the team of educators in Mojave

Unified,” Zaidi said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with all members

of the Mojave community to meet the diverse needs of our students. Go Colts!”

Mr. Zaidi replaces Mr. Dan Sexton, who is now the Director of Curriculum Integration

and Educational Partnerships for Mojave Unified.

For Immediate Release: July 2, 2018

The Mojave Unified School Board took action at its June 28, 2018 meeting to appoint

Mr. Daniel Sexton to the newly established position of Director of Curriculum Integration

and Educational Partnerships.

Mr. Sexton has served as principal of Mojave Elementary School for the past four years.

He was born and raised in the Antelope Valley, grew-up in the community of Mojave and

attended Mojave Unified schools for his entire K-12 education.

Mr. Sexton later graduated from California State University, Bakersfield and then joined

an AmeriCorps program known as Teach for America, which focuses on educational equity

and narrowing achievement gaps in high-poverty communities. Mr. Sexton taught in

Harlem, New York and Tulsa, Oklahoma while serving with Teach for America.

After returning home, Mr. Sexton began teaching for Mojave Unified and is now beginning

his 8th year working for the District. During this time, Mr. Sexton earned the

Teacher-of-the-Year recognition while teaching at California City Middle School. He later

worked as the Program Manager of Extended Learning, operating after school programs

at six school sites. He then served as the K-12 vice-principal for the Mojave schools

before becoming the principal of Mojave Elementary School.

Mr. Sexton has played a major role in overseeing the development of the district’s Local

Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), including the intensive Continuous Improvement Process

(CIP), along with organizing and acting as principal of the MUSD Summer STEM Academy

for the past five years.

The position of Director of Curriculum Integration and Educational Partnerships will focus

on a number of important areas, with particular focus on instruction and assessment to enhance

student achievement and performing community outreach for groups seeking equity for

diverse populations.
